“It's like eating at home”
As a foodie, I have tried street and gourmet food and eaten at some
of the best restaurants in Marrakech. My general felling was the best
food is what you eat at Home.
I heard great things about dar Najat Kitchen which opened recently
and decided to give it a go ,out of curiosity. And My expectations were
not frustrated
The place is not properly speaking a restaurant but a riad with ground
floor couryard whcih can easily accommodate 15 to 20 people .The riad
terrace has af ew tables for 2 and 4 people . There is also a room at
the top with a superb view of the Medina which functions as a niche
for a tete a tete and intimate dinners
I did not go for the decor but for the food and I was not disappointed.
The starters - aubergine, cauliflower and Mechouia were out of this
world; tasty and mouth watering. I opted for their royal couscous as a
main dish. I have eaten couscous at home and many places all over
Morocco but Dar Najat's is beats them all. The vegetables were cooked
al dente and not mushy as is the custom. The lamb meat was tender and
succulent and the carmelised onions just the right sweetness.
After a hearty meal I decided against dessert and had some tea instead.
A highlight of the evening was the belly dancer who provided some
high quality enetertainment to the amusemnt of kids and grown- ups
The bill amounted to 300 dh. which was more than a decent price and
less than you will pay at most of '"gourmet" restaurants in
Marrakech. Wine and beer is extra but mineral water, tea and coffee
are complimentary.
The staff are friendly and the place is homely and cosy and is ideal
for family ascwell as couples.
So if you 're looking for a home made meal and gourmet food without
paying an exorbitant price Dar Najat Kitchen is the place for you. You
need just to book your dinner in advance
