BEST ROMANTIC RIAD IN MARRAKECH

“A Diamond in the Medina”
Oliver our host ,his wife and every one of the Dar Najat team were completly delightful.Myself (Lynda) and my daughter (Vikki) (both of whom are fairly well travelled and have no interest in ostentacious overpriced accomodation)took my son Chiron to Marrakech as a 21st birthday pressy,he had not been anywhere before so how different can you get!!! the Riad dar Najat is nestled in amongst the old lovely Medina and you will be unclear what is about to behold your eyes until the door opens to invite you in ' and it is just simply beautifull. Funky, cool and laid back and very welcoming. The staff were as kind and helpfull as anyone could ask and made us feel safe and special. The souks the buildings, and people were a visual delight but be prepared for an old city the like of which you will not experience in many places in the world. This is a very unique place that has to be quietly and slowly digested and returned to again another day. My four days stay here at Riad da Najat with my family made me very happy.

OLIVER'S RIADS-NEW BOUTIQUE RIAD DAR NAJAT 2012

2012

“Great service and location”
This riad really made our holiday to Marrakech!

After a long exchange of e-mails between myself and the owner Olliver, we decided to book direct with him. His answers to my questions, always very promptly, certainly helped with my decision to book.

The welcome dinner we had for booking minimum 4 nights direct was unbelievable! Lamb tagine with lots of spiced vegetables etc - without a doubt the BEST meal we had anywhere on a 5 night trip. Breakfast was also tasty, served in the morning sun on the top terrace, which was beautiful. The whole riad was just beautiful - my first impression when we arrived mid-evening was 'wow', the lighting creating a great ambience everywhere.

The service was always brilliant, with Amin always willing to get us drinks and answer any queries we had with the area in general. He even took us to the main square on the first morning so we could find our way. Our shower had a slight problem with the water not being hot enough. Once reported this was promptly fixed by Tariq - another credit to the slick operation in this riad.

The riad is well located, about a 7 minute walk to the main square, which is good as any closer you would hear the constant passing of motorbikes at all hours - they literally ride bikes EVERYWHERE in the medina, even through the narrowest of alleys - be careful!

We had the Sakina room on the ground floor. The bed was firm but comfortable. Bathroom was a good size with powerful shower, and I believe the biggest compared to the smaller ones in other bedrooms we saw. Some may not like the lack of sunlight as the room is inside on the ground floor, but this suited us to enable us to sleep past sunrise!

To sum it up, we'd definitely recommend Dar Najat to anyone looking for a genuine riad in the medina. The staff, service, and the beauty of this riad makes an excellent base for exploring Marrakech

“Wonderful memories of our stay at Dar Najat - we only can hope to return someday...”
Spent 5 delightful days and nights overall at the magical Riad Dar Najat. We cant say enough kind words about the lovely staff and service that you will find here and we feel as if we were leaving dear friends when it came time to depart. Thank you to Oliver, Amin, Ahmed, Mohammed,Tourik, Said and Leila forall that you did to make our stay so memorable. The delightful breakfasts on the terrace, personally guiding us in the Medina to find a destination, delicious tagine dinners on two of the evenings, setting us up with excursions, plus always a smile to greet you or send you on your way. It was a pleasure to stay here and we hope to see again someday, inshallah.

“Traditional Moroccan food - the best in Marrakech”
If you are in Marrakech and wished you had been invited to a home of one of the locals to eat tradtional Moroccan food then this is the place is for you.

The food is excellent, you get generous portions and the ambience of the place makes you feel at home. The service you get is very friendly, the staff are there just when you need them and they all speak good English.

You get a variety of vegatable starters with every meal, the portions are very big and you have to take it easy on them (even though they are delicious and you find you cannot stop eating them), you have to leave enough room for the main course and dessert.

Over 3 nights, I tried the chicken tagine which was delicious, it had a hint of lemon and olives and had just the right amount of spices. I tried the kefta tagine, always one of my favourites in Marrakech, the sauce was perfect and the meal delicious. I also tried the lamb tagine, again slow cooked to perfection, it was very tasty, the meat just melted away.

It is best to pre-book your meal in this restaurant, you can book the day before but give at least 4 hours notice so your meal can be prepared especially for you. They serve a tagine of the day (with all of the starters) which you can have if you turn up without a booking. Alcohol is served at this restaurant.

The price for the meals was very reasonable, it was around £20 per person for everything (excluding the alcohol). There were several seating options you can choose, you have the downstairs courtyard, the upstairts terrace or a couple of private seating rooms. You are not rushed around and you can take as much time as you like.

If you are going to Marrakech and are looking for traditional home cooked Moroccan food, then Dar Najat's Kitchen is the place to go.

“best couscous in town”
Part of the pleasure of eating in Marrakesh is finding your way through winding streets to come upon a hidden gem. Having said that, the Dar Najat kitchen is not hard to find. We thought the food was really nice. We had a mixed lamb and chicken couscous, the quantity was extremely generous, in fact we couldn't finish it. The staff are really friendly , the service is good and the ambience is magical. If you visit their website, you'll see the pictures and it looks exactly like that. No photoshopping.

“Excellent food, very friendly service”
Not the easiest to find but staff are very friendly and able to arrange to meet you in the main square for the short walk.

Excellent food, felt like eating in someone's house and a great setting, top floor of a riad with a beautiful view of the night sky. the staff were great, we didn't even look at a menu, just round after round of authentic local specialities. The end bill was very reasonable given what we ate and drank. my one comment would be to expand the wine selection but that's a small consideration, we enjoyed the meal a lot

Would definitely go back again the next time I visit Marrakech

special place to stay in Marrakech-RIAD DAR NAJAT
From the moment we arrived in Marrakesh, Dar najat gave us warm welcome and memorable experience. Tucked away on a quiet street just 5 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Djemaa el Fna, This riad is truly a hidden gem. The riad itself is charming and comfortable, and the owner olivier did everything possible to make us feel at home.

Food: Moroccan breakfast was served fresh every morning on the terrace and provided a wide assortment of delicious foods including freshly baked breads, cheeses, jam/marmalade, eggs or omelettes, mixed fruit and a choice of coffee, mint tea, milk and fresh-squeezed orange juice.

Location: The location of the riad is near unbeatable, especially if you like a respite from all of the activity in the plaza. Within about 15-20 minutes, we could walk to most of the attractions in Marrakesh (e.g. Badai palace, Saadien tombs, Bab agnaou, Koutoubia mosque, the souks). A few were farther away, but well worth the longer walk to stay where we were. The street where Dar najat is located is a bit quieter, but we never felt unsafe, and there is a night guard at the riad.

Hospitality: The owner possesses a wealth of information, has traveled extensively and is a fantastic conversationalist (in English, French, Spanish and maybe other languages as well). After we arrived, he sat us down with mint tea and maps of the city and highlighted the attractions for us. Not only can he provide great tips on places to see, eat, shop, etc., but he also helps arranges tours outside of Marrakesh. We decided to do a half-day hike in the atlas mountains, he arranged our transportation to and from the mountains, a private guide and lunch at a charming restaurant

In short, we loved the city and our experience at dar najat Our least favorite part of Marrakesh was being dropped off at the airport after four days of fun. We will definitely be back and can't wait to return .
